First shot ever with Monobloc Twin #1. Shot was taken from about 15 feet. The slip tipped shaft punched all the way through this beautiful cobia to the shooting line. #spearevolution
My buddy and I paddled 5 miles offshore to some Gulf reefs for good free diving and a few nice mangs!
If you ask my Partner in Search, Eric, "What is the Search?" ...this is probably what he'd tell you. This is as good as life gets.
That moment when paddling 7 miles upwind becomes totally worth it.
There's been a lot of talk in the news about manatee twin babies lately. Well, I can confirm that the rumors are true and that they're doing just fine. The mom, Tomo-Bella, is on the left in this picture with both pups on the right. You can clearly see one nose, and the other is right next to him.
A little wildlife SUP Search Saturday for Ayla and I. About as beautiful of a day as you could ever hope for in Sarasota Bay. Sightings included a lot of sharks, large rays, spotted eagle ray with a cobia in tow, dolphins, manatees, baby sea turtle, and probably some other wildlife I'm forgetting.
All the prototypes have lead up to this; the final result of the OARACLE project. ...but this one gets a special name: Meet CETO. In Greek Mythology, Ceto was the goddess of the dangers of the sea. In the Search, CETO is a 17 foot carbon fiber masterpiece. This unlimited SUP was the result of a collaboration between Starboard and Juan Rodriguez that ended up becoming the prototype for the Starboard Ace GT. The Ace GT is a $5,000 board. This one found its way to the Search for little more than the promise it would be used to its full Search potential. CETO is a board that is built for heavy open ocean wind and waves, and I am happy to have her protection.
I won't lie. It's been a hard couple of weeks. I failed to match into a residency program at the conclusion of medical school, which means I'm kind of floating around in doctor limbo. Luckily, nothing heals the soul like friends, the ocean, a good horizon paddle...
...oh, and 17 feet of carbon fiber.
After letting the epoxy cure for the obligatory 24 hours, we finally loaded up to Search. OARACLE 2 is complete with diver down flag, anchor, fish cooler, Blacktip 120cm custom speargun, fins, mask, GoPro, and paddle. I got quite a few looks and comments from armchair Searchers passing by.
So, what happens when you combine a free race SUP donated to the Search by Juan Rodriguez...
