Our last day on the Left Coast was New Years Eve, and boy did we send out 2013 properly!
Let's get straight to the point. Salt Creek was PUMPIN'! Here is a picture with a little foreground perspective. The waves were coming in well overhead, but it was pretty much a shore break into knee-waist deep water. While frightening at times, this meant super hollow. Also, if Panama was the land of a thousand lefts, this was the land of a thousand rights. Think about it, the NW winter swell on the Left Coast is like a reverse Nor'easter on the East Coast.
Next, The Search heads for the most revered break in the continental USA: Lower Trestles aka Lowers.
One thing that amused Ayla and I was the diversity of seagulls in California (we are easily amused). In Florida, they pretty much all look like this guy. ...not so in California. Enjoy the seagull montage.
The Search continues on the Left Coast and heads down to the Oceanside Pier in San Diego.
So, we didn't find the best waves in Huntington, but we found some of the most fun I've had in years.
Next, The Search makes a pilgrimage to surfing's Mecca.
The pier was all festive with snowflakes and Christmas fun. This is a pretty representative Christmas pic of the pier, skateboarder and all.
Day 7: Final day of surf. ...we only had a half day, and it was not without controversy!!!
Day 6, the waves were back, and we all set out for Wizard Beach.
